Annapolis
Wednesday we decided to take advantage of good weather and head for Annapolis. There was some early morning fog, so we waited until noon to get going. Since Zanheisers didn’t sell fuel we stopped at Solomon’s Marine to fill up with Diesel. The attendant there really liked Annapolis and told us places we should visit. So we headed off and enjoyed an afternoon with no waves and partly cloudy skies.

We arrived in Annapolis just before 5pm. The marina we were staying at was closing soon but waited up for us. There were dozens of small sailboats in the harbor. They were all from two different sailing schools and it was a challenge to navigate between them. We eventually arrived at our slip and headed off to find dinner. We ended up at O’Brien’s and enjoyed seafood and shepherds pie.

Thursday we stayed in Annapolis and did some early work. We then ventured out on foot for some sightseeing. This is an interesting town. The first US capitol was here and it is the state capitol of Maryland. Obviously the Naval Academy dominates the landscape here, but there is also a lot of charm in the old stores and homes that line the cobblestone roads and walkways.

We spent a total of three nights in Annapolis, and since this was the first real downtime we’ve had in over a month, we did what anyone would do in this situation: we went and saw Avengers Endgame! This required an uber to the local mall. Great movie. We enjoyed it a lot. After leaving the mall after the movie we were caught in a pretty good thunderstorm.

Melissa enjoyed seeing all the May baskets. These were baskets of flowers that were set outside homes and businesses marking the first weekend in May. Each was uniquely decorated and themed. So naturally we had to walk around and take pictures of every one we could find.

We visited the Naval Academy on Friday. Upon entering the grounds through the pedestrian gate I was reminded of a movie filmed here: Patriot Games starring Harrison Ford. So naturally we had to go re-watch the movie after the fact. It is interesting that the area depicted in the movie filmed 20ish years ago looks nearly identical today.

Upon recommendations from more than one source, we went for breakfast at Chick and Ruth’s. It is a cramped place that was very busy, so we sat at the counter and talked to the waitress as we ate our breakfast. As we were eating we noticed all the pies. We ended up returning the same day for pie and ended up with sandwiches, soup, and a malt. It was awesome.

Annapolis was one of our favorite stops so far.
